Owned by a Vietnam veteran, Paladin Press has always been at the forefront with books by, for, and honoring America’s heroes of that conflict. Paladin was one of the first publishers in the nation to release a book on Vietnam, with its 1979 release of Jim Morris' War Story. And books on lessons learned in combat don’t get any better than the SOG works by Major John Plaster and his compatriots. The latest SOG offering by Paladin Press is the updated edition of Across the Fence by John Stryker Meyer, himself a SOG veteran. Meyer's book takes you deep into the jungle for his first tour of duty with SOG in 1968 at FOB 1, Phu Bai, where his job was to run recon missions across the border into NVA sanctuaries in Laos, Cambodia, and North Vietnam.
Honors and memorials for Vietnam veterans, however, especially those who gave all for their nation in that war, were slow in coming and few in number. One exception, although slow to come about, was the Wall in Washington. Thousands upon thousands of GIs return there every year to remember their fallen compatriots, but not everybody can make the trip. Here is a link to a labor-of-love site that comprises a virtual tour, plus greatly detailed information available at the click of a mouse.
First click on a state. When it opens, scroll down to the city of enlistment, and the names will appear. Then click on the name, and it should show you a picture of the person, or at least his bio and medals, and will give details of the death. If unsure of the city of enlistment, you can also do an alphabetical back search and click directly on the name.
This site really is an incredible piece of work for the fallen warriors of the Vietnam War. Pass this link on to others, as we all knew good men whose names are listed.
