MD Creekmore over at The Survivalist Blog gives us his list of the five "must-read" books of 2011 for preppers and survivors. We're happy to see George Bradford's Self-Reliance during Natural Disasters and Civil Unrest on the list.
Bradford's book stands out among prepper publications in that it doesn't cover such typical topics as stockpiling food and ammunition. Rather, the former fire department captain describes how to respond to emergency situations—fires, natural disasters, search and rescue, vehicle accidents, etc.—on your own when fire, rescue, and police personnel are unavailable. The depth and detail of the instructions are remarkable, which is why the book passed muster with Creekmore, a man who knows a thing or two about self-reliance.
More good news: a revised and expanded edition of Self-Reliance during Natural Disasters and Civil Unrest is set for release this fall. Bradford has included new material on such rarely discussed topics as sandbagging to contain damaging floodwaters, clearing rubble and downed trees after a disaster, and staying safe while salvaging damaged property. He also makes an intriguing case for establishing civilian corps of "immediate responders" who can assist themselves and others in the community without waiting for permission or guidance from government officials.
Check back with the Paladin website next month for the official release of this anticipated new edition.
